Chapter Organization

This information is specific to the University of North Carolina chapter, but it can serve as a model that other chapters will follow. If you are interested in starting a HGAPS chapter at your school or University read a little more about membership below.
General Membership
​All members of HGAPS are required to attend 30% of meetings per semester and be full time students (undergraduate or graduate) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The HGAPS club will abide by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Non-Discrimination Policy for Student Organizations, which states the following: Membership and participation in the organization must be open to all students without regard to age, race, color, national origin, disability, religious status or historic religious affiliation, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Membership and participation in the organization must also be open without regard to gender, unless exempt under Title IX. Student organizations that select their members on the basis of commitment to a set of beliefs (e.g., religious or political beliefs) may limit membership and participation in the organization to students who, upon individual inquiry, affirm that they support the organization's goals and agree with its beliefs, so long as no student is excluded from membership or participation on the basis of his or her age, race, color, national origin, disability, religious status or historic religious affiliation, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or, unless exempt under Title IX, gender.
The HGAPS Club will have members pay dues of $12 per semester or $20 per academic year. The Treasurer will handle the finances for membership dues. Funding for any activities will come from outside sources such as fundraisers and requests to Student Congress.
Club Leadership Positions 
​The executive board will consist of a president elect, president, past-president, and treasurer, all of whom must be full-time, registered undergraduate or graduate students of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There will be a faculty advisor, who can be a full-time faculty or staff member of UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals, or an affiliated department; an emeritus UNC-Chapel Hill faculty or staff member; or a campus minister. Social Media Chair will be another elected official, however, they will not be included on the executive board. Executive Board members remain in their respective positions until they abdicate or are impeached. Majority vote from all members of the club will elect a new member to the available position. If the President abdicates or is impeached, the President-Elect will take over. The Executive Board will run in succession where the President-Elect, a sophomore, will become the President the following academic year and the President, a junior, will become the Past-President. Elections will take place before the end of spring semester to ensure a smooth transition of leadership positions. Members of the Executive Board are eligible for impeachment if they abuse their power in any way deemed inappropriate. This includes racist, sexist or otherwise inappropriate behavior, actions, or hazing. Impeachment will result in a majority vote to determine what disciplinary action will be taken, resulting in membership termination or probation. Impeachment will also be considered if an Executive Board member does not attend at least 50% of meetings.
President 
​The President is responsible for overseeing all of the club’s activities. He or she will make sure the club meets and holds events (fundraisers, trips, etc.) regularly throughout the semester and will help come up with ideas for psychology related events and activities club members can participate in.
President Elect 
The President-Elect will focus on recruiting new members to the club to ensure that the club continues to develop and improve over time. In addition, the President-Elect will be in charge of checking-in members at meetings and related events and work closely with the Treasurer to plan budgets. He or she will also make sure members will attend the required number of meetings. They will be responsible for any written minutes about voting and meetings (serving a role similar to Secretary in some other clubs).
Past- President 
​The Past-President will act as an advisor to both the President and President-Elect. They will be on the executive board and participate in voting.
Treasurer 
​The Treasurer will monitor funds. The Treasurer is a member of the Executive Board. He or she will ensure each member pays their club dues and handle all finances for merchandise and all other activities. The Treasurer will also be responsible for seeking financial aid from the University as appropriate.
SOcial Media Chair 
The Social Media Chair will be responsible for creating, updating, and editing HGAPS social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter the website. This is an elected position, though it is not part of the Executive Board.
Faculty Advisor 
The Faculty Advisor must be a full-time faculty or staff member of UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals, or an affiliated department; an emeritus UNC-Chapel Hill faculty or staff member; or a campus minister. The Advisor does not have the right to vote. The Advisor will be given the position of one of the primary contacts for the University. The Advisor will serve until he or she abdicates.

Competitions and Meetings 
Meetings
There are seven meetings per semester with at least one Executive Board member in attendance at each. Additional meetings and activities are held as needed. Meetings are currently held Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm in Davie Hall on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

Conferences
The following are conferences we send members to around the country at the state, regional, and national level. 
  • NCPA (North Carolina Psychological Association) -- We are partnering with the North Carolina Psychological Association to develop pages with notes and resources related to conference programming.
  • SCCAP (Society of Clinical & Adolescent Psychology) programming at the American Psychological Association National Convention
  • JCCAP Future Directions Forum
At conferences typically, HGAPS members present posters, take notes on sessions they attend and upload them to Wikiversity, attend workshops that align with their interests, and network with psychologists with whom they would like to work. 

Edit-a-thons
HGAPS chapters can conduct edit-a-thons, which are 2-3 hour collaborative editing session in which students partner with clinicians and researchers to enhance or create high quality pages. Edit-a-thons differ from regular meetings in that usually, outside quests are invited to collaborate upon projects. The following are Wikiversity pages created for edit-a-thons the UNC chapter conducted. 
  • Fall 2017 UNC-CH-- this edit-a-thon worked on five "public interest" pages and included several educators and licensed clinicians, as well as students working long distance from Appalachian State University and content experts participating by video conference. The link connects to current draft versions of content.
